“A long journey starts with a single step.” This phrase is apt in the evolution of SOCM-FORUM as you see it today.

On 15th November 2000, a dedicated member of the ancient Malankara Syriac Orthodox Church started this internet discussion forum, to glorify God Almighty as well as to disseminate the truth to the world. The initial handful members and their hard work paved way for the forum to be grown to the present membership of 3000+ and becoming premier in all such forums available in the electronic media. Now it is managed by six dedicated moderators from all parts of the world. The success of this forum was due to your full support and by the grace of God Almighty, and all praises are for HIM only.

SOCM-FORUM is a discussion forum in Yahoo Group for Malankara Jacobite Syrian Christians (Malankara Jacobite Syrian Christian Church-under the Holy see of Patriarch of Antioch and all the East.)

This Forum will entertain the discussion pertaining the faith, tradition and the day-to-day church matters. Moderator have full rights to edit, delete the message or even disapprove the message from the honorable members, if the message contain any thing against the faith, belief and traditions of Universal Syriac Orthodox Church.

However, we need your assistance in maintaining healthy and authentic discussions in the forum, by providing your complete details to us, after which you will be allotted a membership ID number. When you post further messages to the forum, you may only quote the member ID number along with your name. We assure you that your details will not published in forum without your consent and will be kept with us only.

The Forum is not representing the official stand of the church and by no means claims any official recognition of the church authorities, even though the Owner and Moderators owe allegiance to the hierarchy of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church. However, opinions and responses of the Church leadership are posted here.

Discussion is conducted in a spirit of love and humility, particularly when engaging Christians of non-Syriac Orthodox Churches.

About SOCMNet

SOCMNet is an internet platform of Malankara Jacobite Syriac Christians (Malankara Jacobite Syrian Christian Church - under the Holy See of the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East.). According to tradition, Christianity in India was established by St. Thomas, who arrived in Malankara (Kerala) from Edessa in A.D. 52. The Church in Malankara has had close ties with the Church in the Near East ever since. The ties between the Church in Malankara and the Near East formalized and strengthen by, when under the leadership of the merchant Thomas of Cana and 72 families (around 400 odd persons comprising men, women and children, reached Cragananore (Kodungalloore). The group consisted of the Bishop Mor Joseph of Edessa as well as some priests and deacons traveled and migrated to India and met Christians there by AD 345. The church in Malankara is an integral part of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church with the Patriarch of Antioch [His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas] as its supreme head. The local head of the church in Malankara is the Catholicose of India [His Beatitude Baselios Thomas I], ordained by and accountable to the Patriarch of Antioch. The web sites in the SOCMNet are not official web sites of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Malankara, even though the Owners, Moderators and Webmasters owe allegiance to the hierarchy of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church.
